Queens Werq the World 2017 Tour at the Troxy: Tuesday 30 May

On Tuesday 30 May there’s a whole gaggle (we think that’s the correct collective noun) of stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race descending on London when the Queens Werq the World 2017 Tour lands at the Troxy on Commercial Road, E1. Hosted by Michelle Visage along with a DJ set from Jodie Harsh, we take a look at the queens on offer at this special event.

Michelle Visage

She’s the undisputed queen of the judges on RuPaul’s Drag Race where she has sat by Ru’s side since 2011, dishing out the firm but fair judgements. She’s also a successful singer, appearing on Top of the Pops in 1993, a best selling author and was a standout housemate on Celebrity Big Brother last year.

Violet Chachki

Stunning Violet was the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 and is a burlesque dance and recording star who has scored a top 20 dance smash in America with her EP Gagged.

Shea Couleé

Shea from Chicago is one of the stars of the current Season 9 of Drag Race. Her first name is the Swahili word for ‘beautiful boy’ and her second name is a reference to coulis the sauce and a mix of culo, which is ‘ass’ in Spanish.

Detox

Detox Icunt was on Season 5 of Drag Race and also a member of the hit group DWV, which enjoyed hits with songs such as This Boy Is A Bottom and Chow Down. She’s ferocious and very funny.

Shangela

Her full name is Shangela Laquifa Wadley and she unusually competed on both Season 2 and 3 of the show, when she was brought back as a surprise. Since leaving the show she has been seen in a number of big TV shows including Glee, Bones and The X-Files.

Sasha

Sasha Velour is another standout star of Season 9. She’s half Russian, is from Brooklyn in New York and her favourite song to perform is Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush.

Kim Chi

Kim is one of the most visually striking queens to appear on Drag Race; she’s a seven-foot tall, live-action anime character and high-fashion model. Born in the US and raised in South Korea, she was on Season 8 of the show

Alyssa

Alyssa Edwards was a full blown drag pageant superstar, winning many titles before she joined Drag Race for Season 5. She later returned to the show for the second season of All Stars and made an appearance in Bianca Del Rio’s film, Hurricane Bianca.
