Pride at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern

The Royal Vauxhall Tavern really does have something for everyone this Pride weekend from Madonna to Myra. Here’s a stroll through the garden of delights on offer at this cherished LGBT venue.

RVT Film Club – In Bed with Madonna

Thursday 6 July, 7pm – midnight

What better way to start the Pride weekend than a screening of this classic Madonna on the road flick. Undoubtedly a career high, filmed on her Blonde Ambition tour in 1990 it’s packed with glorious hits. Plus it’s free entry, with a donation to charity Cabaret vs Cancer.

The LipSinkers

Friday 7 July, 9pm – 4am

The LipSinkers are a stunning cabaret troupe from East London bringing their unique mix of jaw-dropping shows and bonkers club night with DJs Dawn Amber Harvey, David Robson and Gareth Hackney to the RVT.

Duckie Decrim

Saturday 8 July, 9pm – 3am

The centrepiece of the RVT Pride weekend will be Duckie Decrim when Amy Lamé, the Readers Wifes and the rest of the gang pack out the RVT and takeover the next door railway arch with a party recreating a 1960s underground gay club complete with ‘dog rough vauxhall drag’. Simon Casson from Duckie told us: “In the past on Pride night Duckie has taken over lots of other venues – The Fridge, Brixton Academy, Connaught Rooms, The Coronet – but this year we are staying on our home turf at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. It’s been a gay club for as long as anyone can remember, so we are taking it back in time to 1967 for this year’s theme. In the Sixties there was a straight side of the bar and a gay side of the bar, and the drag of course would perform on the bar. And Pride’s theme Love Happens Here? Well, lots of people have met their partners at Duckie and the RVT, so love has happened here, as well as a lot of hedonism, fun and riotous nights.”

Sunday Social with Mary Mac

Sunday 9 July, 3pm – midnight

What could be better post-Pride than an afternoon of quiet reflection with a civilised woman, some chamber music and a few gentile titters over a half a shandy… Or you could go see Mary Mac at the RVT doing everything within her considerable powers to break the combined world crowd surf and haggis record. You choose.
